Fitbit Edge: Google’s Middle Ground Between Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch
Google’s Fitbit lineup expanded on Monday with the introduction of the Fitbit Edge, a new wearable positioned between the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch. Priced at $179.99, the Fitbit Edge combines the Fitbit Air’s slim band with an OLED display for checking map directions, notifications, weather, and music controls.

The Fitbit Edge works with Google Health Coach, powered by Gemini, just like the Pixel Watch and Fitbit Air. You’ll need a Google Health Premium subscription to use it. The coach can use your fitness, health, and medical information to put together weekly routines and workout plans, then adjust them around your schedule.
It also comes with Google’s Health Guardian feature, designed to spot notable changes in health measurements over time, including indicators related to blood pressure and insulin resistance. Google announced these features at the Pixel Watch 5 launch in August.
Fitness and Activity Tracking on the Fitbit Edge
Google says the Fitbit Edge can automatically recognize and log up to 100 activities, including runs, bike rides, and walks. The company explains it uses context from your movement to work out what you’re doing and add it to your weekly goals.
Plus, the Fitbit Edge supports more than 50 exercise modes and can offer on-screen prompts during workouts, such as a nudge to push harder or take a breather. These prompts are designed to help you stay engaged and adjust your effort in real time.
For people who mix up their training, the automatic activity recognition means fewer manual entries. You can focus on moving rather than logging every session by hand.
GPS, Sleep, and Battery Performance
The Fitbit Edge’s built-in GPS is 40% more accurate than the previous generation, the company claims, which should make it easier to track outdoor runs.
Google says sleep-stage detection is also 15% more accurate than on earlier generations, helping the device provide better sleep summaries and coaching tips.
Meanwhile, the battery is rated for up to seven days on a charge, and the wearable is water-resistant to 50 meters. That combination makes the Fitbit Edge suitable for everyday wear, including swimming and showering, without needing a daily charge.
Health Monitoring and Coaching Features
The Google Health Coach integration is one of the standout features of the Fitbit Edge. By pulling from your fitness, health, and medical information, the coach builds weekly routines and workout plans. It then adjusts those plans around your schedule, which could be useful for people with unpredictable weeks.
Health Guardian adds another layer by tracking changes in health measurements over time. According to Google, it can flag indicators related to blood pressure and insulin resistance. These features were first announced at the Pixel Watch 5 launch in August.
Pricing, Colors, and Availability
The Fitbit Edge is available to preorder through the Google Store, with store availability set for October 27.
Color choices include Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon. There’s also a Stephen Curry Special Edition, priced at $219.99.

Who Should Consider the Fitbit Edge?
The Fitbit Edge sits in a practical middle ground. It offers more display functionality than the Fitbit Air but comes in at a lower price point than the Pixel Watch.
For anyone who wants essential smartwatch features — notifications, music controls, weather, and map directions — without paying flagship prices, the Fitbit Edge presents a compelling option.
The Google Health Coach integration adds another layer of value for users already invested in Google’s health ecosystem. However, the Google Health Premium subscription requirement is worth factoring into the overall cost.
What Makes the Fitbit Edge Stand Out
The combination of an OLED display, a slim band, and a seven-day battery life gives the Fitbit Edge a distinct identity in Google’s wearable lineup. It’s not trying to be a full smartwatch or a bare-bones tracker. Instead, it aims to deliver the essentials with a few premium touches.
The Stephen Curry Special Edition also gives fans a way to own a version tied to a well-known athlete. At $219.99, it costs $40 more than the standard model.
With preorders open and store availability on October 27, the Fitbit Edge is set to arrive just in time for the holiday shopping season. Whether it becomes the go-to middle option in Google’s lineup will depend on how users respond to its mix of features and price.
