1Password for Agents is a new platform that lets AI agents sign in to websites on your behalf without ever receiving your username, password, or vault contents. The feature follows 1Password’s Claude integration from July and extends access to Meta’s Muse, OpenAI’s Dots, and SpaceXAI’s Grok Bot. The goal is to let your personal AI assistant handle tasks like booking restaurants, buying gifts, and planning vacations while keeping your credentials out of the model’s hands.
How 1Password for Agents Works
When an agent reaches a password check during a task you requested, it uses a special key to verify its identity with 1Password. The service then notifies you about which agent needs access and why. If you approve, 1Password fills in the required information.
Access is granted per session, limited to specific approved items, and is not carried over. Passwords and one-time MFA codes are injected through a secure channel managed by 1Password, so they stay outside the model at all times.
As Aashish Tripathi, 1Password’s chief product officer, said: “An agent should be able to do the job it’s been asked to do without getting permanent access to everything behind the account, and 1Password provides the trust layer that makes this possible across personal agent experiences.”
Which AI Agents Are Supported?
1Password for Agents now works with:
Muse from Meta
Claude Duet
ChatGPT Work and Dots from OpenAI
Grok Bot and Town from SpaceXAI
For each of these, 1Password provides approved access when needed and lets users approve sign-ins. Passwords, usernames, and MFA codes remain outside each agent’s view, so they can’t spread beyond your own devices.
Why Secure Agent Access Matters
AI agents have a reputation for going rogue, and giving them login credentials has long been a fraught proposition. The 1Password for Agents model addresses that by ensuring an agent never holds permanent access to everything behind an account.
Still, common sense is required. Even though agents won’t leak your password secrets, they can make product ordering errors or book the wrong vacation with no option to cancel. Deploying an agent for purchases or travel bookings deserves extra caution.
What 1Password for Agents Means for You
The appeal of 1Password for Agents is convenience without exposure. Your AI assistant can complete login-required tasks while 1Password acts as the gatekeeper. You stay in control of every approval, and the agent never sees the secrets it uses.
This approach also limits the blast radius of a mistake. Because access is tied to a single session and specific items, an agent can’t quietly accumulate permanent access across your accounts. Each new request starts from a fresh approval.
What’s Still Unknown
1Password has not yet revealed pricing or availability details for 1Password for Agents. The company says more information should be announced soon.
For now, the launch signals a broader shift: as AI agents take on more real-world tasks, the login layer between you and those agents is becoming its own product category.
1Password for Agents gives AI assistants the access they need to complete tasks while keeping your credentials invisible to the model. Per-session approval, item-level limits, and secure credential injection make it a meaningful safeguard. Still, users should supervise any agent trusted with purchases and bookings, and pricing and availability remain unconfirmed.
