Spotify Audiobooks Expansion Reaches Over 180 Markets Worldwide

Spotify audiobooks expansion is officially going global. The audio streaming platform announced on Wednesday that it is bringing audiobook access to over 180 markets worldwide, covering regions across Europe, the Americas, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The rollout begins today and will continue over the coming months.

With this move, more than 750 million users will be able to access audiobooks, allowing Spotify to compete more directly with music streaming providers and dedicated audiobook apps. Until now, audiobooks on Spotify were available primarily in English-speaking markets such as the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as in Germany.

What the Spotify Audiobooks Expansion Includes

The platform said it has more than 350,000 titles ready for its new markets and has grown its collection to include over 120 languages. In Spain, listeners will gain access to more than 45,000 titles in Spanish alone.

Spotify is also working with more than 300 publishers worldwide, including Planeta and Mondadori, to keep expanding the number of titles available across different regions. That publisher network is central to making the Spotify audiobooks expansion work across so many languages and cultures at once.

Listening Options for Subscribers

With a Premium subscription, users can listen to 12 hours of audiobooks in eligible countries such as Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Norway, and Peru.

Listeners elsewhere can purchase an Audiobook+ stand-alone subscription, which comes with a 15-hour allowance. Alternatively, users can buy individual titles directly if they prefer to own specific books rather than subscribe.

Audiobook+ Growth and Student Plans

Spotify is adding an Audiobook+ add-on for student plans in select regions starting in November. The company said that since its launch last year, Audiobook+ has gained over 1 million subscribers and has generated over $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

That revenue figure matters because it shows the Spotify audiobooks expansion is not just about reach. It is also building a meaningful business line on top of the platform’s existing music and podcast offerings.

Page Match and How Listeners Discover Books

In February, the company launched a “Page Match” feature. It lets users scan a page of a physical book and find the corresponding point in the audiobook so they can keep listening from where they left off reading.

Since the launch, 1 million people have been using the feature monthly, according to the company. Spotify also said that over the last year, monthly listeners of audiobooks grew by 40% and listening hours increased by 30%.

Charts, AI Tools, and Physical Books

This year, the company introduced Audiobook Charts to help people discover popular titles. It also launched an AI-powered tool for authors to turn their books into audiobooks using models from ElevenLabs.

Beyond digital, Spotify began experimenting with physical sales of books through its audiobook platform in select markets like the U.S. and the U.K. Together, these moves show how broadly the Spotify audiobooks expansion reaches, from discovery to production to retail.

What This Means for Listeners and Publishers

For listeners in newly eligible countries, the Spotify audiobooks expansion will roll out gradually over the coming months rather than all at once. Premium subscribers in eligible markets can start with 12 hours of listening, while Audiobook+ offers a 15-hour allowance for heavier listeners.

For publishers and authors, the expansion opens a much wider global audience. With more than 300 publishing partners already involved and a catalog spanning over 120 languages, Spotify is positioning audiobooks as a core part of its platform rather than a side feature.

The Spotify audiobooks expansion also puts pressure on established audiobook services. By bundling audiobook hours into Premium and offering a stand-alone Audiobook+ plan, Spotify gives listeners multiple ways to try the format without committing to a separate app.

Spotify has not said exactly when every market will go live, only that the rollout starts today and continues over the coming months. Given the scale, from Europe and the Americas to Africa and Asia, this is one of the platform’s largest content pushes to date.

If the early numbers hold, the Spotify audiobooks expansion could reshape how millions of people discover and listen to books. With 750 million potential users, 350,000 titles, and 120 languages, the platform is betting that audiobooks belong alongside music and podcasts, not in a separate app.
