Idle Car Inventory: Turning Parked Cars Into Rental Income

When Igor Dobrianskyi looks at a dealership lot, he sees wasted money. Millions of used cars sit parked across the United States, losing value every single day. At the same time, plenty of people need a car for a few months, yet their options remain limited and expensive. His startup, MyMonthlyCar, wants to connect those two problems through one online platform built to turn idle car inventory into steady rental revenue.

MyMonthlyCar was chosen for the 2026 Startup Battlefield 200, a group of promising early-stage startups invited to exhibit at TechCrunch Disrupt, taking place October 13 to 15 in San Francisco.

What MyMonthlyCar Actually Does

The name says most of it, but there is one important twist. MyMonthlyCar only rents used cars on a month-to-month basis. There are no short-term rental options here.

Instead, dealerships get something extra: the chance to offer customers a rent-to-own path.

“So we don’t bring them only customers to rent on a monthly basis; we basically bring them the clients who potentially can buy this car as well,” Dobrianskyi said.

That single detail changes the math for dealers. A vehicle sitting on the lot can now earn money while it waits for a buyer.

How the Platform Earns Money

MyMonthlyCar does not charge dealerships to list cars on its website. Instead, it takes 10% of each transaction from dealers and a separate 10% fee from the customer.

That structure keeps things simple. Dealers pay nothing upfront, and the startup only earns when a rental actually happens.

Who Is Behind the Startup

MyMonthlyCar is registered in Delaware and based in Florida. It was co-founded by Dobrianskyi, CPO Kostiantyn Gitko, and CTO Vadym Zotov. All three founders are from Ukraine. Dobrianskyi moved to the U.S. with his wife and young daughter after the Russia-Ukraine war began.

Where the Idea Came From

The concept did not appear out of nowhere. Dobrianskyi previously owned a car rental company in Ukraine, but limited financing options there capped how far he could scale it.

In 2016, he launched a peer-to-peer car marketplace called SizeCar, where owners rent their cars to other drivers, similar to how Turo works today. SizeCar eventually expanded to 40 European cities.

That experience shaped his read on the American market, where thousands of dealerships hold inventory that earns nothing while it sits.

Insurance Is the Make-or-Break Piece

MyMonthlyCar has signed on seven dealerships to test the service. The startup is also working with an insurance broker to finalize its own insurance program, which will let customers pick among different coverage types.

“Insurance is the key for this business, and you need to have your own insurance as a platform,” Dobrianskyi said.

He noted that the number one question from dealers was about insurance and liability coverage. Until that program launches, the service cannot scale fully. The company expects its first year of operation to begin later this year, once insurance is in place.

Growth Targets and Funding Plans

Despite being early-stage, the founders have set ambitious goals. They plan to sign on 100 dealerships with 2,000 monthly rentals and $300,000 in revenue during the company’s first year of operation.

Over the next five years, the target is $42 million in revenue, Dobrianskyi said.

MyMonthlyCar has not raised venture capital yet and is currently bootstrapped. The plan is to raise a seed round, with the money helping the company hire more developers to build out the platform.

An AI Tool for Dealers

Part of that build-out includes an AI tool designed to help dealers identify which cars are best to rent out at any given time. That kind of guidance could help dealerships manage their idle car inventory more profitably instead of guessing.

Why This Matters for Dealers and Renters

For dealerships, every day a used car sits on the lot is a day it loses value. MyMonthlyCar offers a way to offset that depreciation by putting those vehicles to work.

For renters, the appeal is flexibility and price. Getting a car for a few months has traditionally been expensive and hard to arrange. A month-to-month model fills the gap between short-term rentals and long-term leases.

The startup’s success will hinge on execution, especially on the insurance side. But if the model works, it could give thousands of dealerships a new way to monetize idle car inventory.

With 76,000 dealerships in the United States and millions of used cars sitting on lots, the opportunity is hard to ignore. MyMonthlyCar’s bet is simple: dealerships will welcome a new revenue stream, and renters will embrace a flexible alternative.

For now, attention turns to the insurance program launch later this year, which will shape how quickly MyMonthlyCar can grow.
