Bee AI Note-Taking Devices Arrive Under Amazon

Just over a year after being acquired by Amazon, wearable AI startup Bee is unveiling two new devices, a Pro subscription, and software updates. The Bee AI note-taking lineup now includes the Frontier and the Eclipse, giving users more ways to capture conversations and turn them into summaries, to-dos, and memories.

The announcement marks Bee’s first major product launch since the Amazon acquisition and signals the company’s push toward more affordable, colorful, and connected AI wearables.

Bee Frontier: A Smaller, Tougher Successor

The Bee Frontier is essentially a follow-up to and replacement of the previous Pioneer. Like its predecessor, the Frontier is a Fitbit-like module that slots into a bracelet or clip so you can attach it to your clothes or bags. It has an onboard button to start a note-taking session or invoke the app’s Buzz AI assistant, plus an LED indicator that shows when it’s listening or charging.

The Frontier improves on the first-gen Pioneer in several ways. It’s smaller and lighter, comes in more colors, and is rated IP67 for dust and water resistance, according to Amazon. The Pioneer was not even water-resistant. Color options include Lavender, Sage, and a more understated black (Onyx) version.

Both models share dual microphones with noise filtering to tune out background chatter, though how well the Frontier handles this will require in-depth testing. They also share the same 7-day battery life estimate, a USB-C charging port, and similar functionality.

  • One press of the button starts a recording session, where Bee listens to your surroundings and delivers transcripts and summaries.

  • Press and hold the button to ask the AI assistant a question or leave yourself a voice note.

The Bee Frontier is available now for $75 at Amazon. The Pioneer is no longer available to purchase.

Should You Wait for Reviews?

If water resistance, new colors, and a smaller size matter to you, the Frontier is a modest but meaningful upgrade. Still, you may want to wait for full reviews before deciding whether it’s worth the money.

Bee Eclipse: A Magnetic AI Note Taker for Your Phone

The second piece of hardware Bee is announcing today is the Eclipse, a magnetic, rectangular puck you can snap onto your phone. It’s like a thicker credit card with three onboard microphones, a button on the top left corner, and an LED indicator light next to it.

The Eclipse is much bigger than the Frontier, which means it can last a lot longer. It offers three times the battery life, with Bee promising it will last “more than 21 days.”

This is a new type of device for Bee, since it’s not really a wearable for people and more like a wearable for phones. At its core, the Eclipse performs the same functions as a Frontier or Pioneer. Push a button to start a session, the indicator light turns on, and the AI gets to work summarizing discussions and attempting to identify who is speaking or what is being said.

Privacy and Form Factor Concerns

The company said that “like all Bee devices, audio is never stored, cannot be accessed or shared, and users are prompted to gain permission from call participants each time a recording is started.” It added that the Eclipse, like the Frontier, “is designed with privacy at its core, with one button to turn it on or off and a visible indicator light on when it’s summarizing a conversation.”

While the rationale behind a small light signaling to people nearby that a device might be recording is sound, the Eclipse’s shape, size, and magnetic attachment make it closely resemble a portable battery charger. Those also have indicator lights, so it’s easy to see how someone might assume an LED means something is charging rather than listening.

The Eclipse comes in four colors — Silver, Midnight, Honey, and Blush. It costs $100, and Amazon says it will be “available soon,” with no more specific time frame shared.

Bee Pro Subscription and New Integrations

Bee is also unveiling the Bee Pro subscription plan. For $11.99 a month, it offers additional features like unlimited recent conversation summaries, suggested to-dos, daily memories, conversation templates, and new integrations.

Existing Bee users may not be affected by the paywall. Bee’s founder Maria Zollo said in a briefing that for customers who have been with the company since its early days, “as a sign of gratitude, we’re giving to them the Bee they have today.” Zollo added that for them, the “entire featureset is free forever.” All new Bee customers also get 30 days of free Bee Pro use.

Alexa+ and Amazon.com Connections

If you want the Pro features, you’ll need a subscription. The company is expanding its in-app integrations, which previously included Google Calendar, Gmail, and Apple’s HealthKit. It’s introducing “the ability to connect to Alexa+ and Amazon.com.”

  • Amazon.com integration: Your Bee can suggest items you might have mentioned wanting to purchase. Recommendations show up on Amazon’s homepage and in the Bee apps. You can also create custom shopping lists from things that came up in conversations.

  • Alexa+ integration: You can ask your Echo or other Alexa-enabled device for information your Bee might know, from conversation summaries to to-dos or book recommendations from friends. Amazon said Alexa devices would use voice identification to confirm it’s you before sharing information.

Amazon stressed that both features are opt-in, so the user must give permission before information is shared.

Desktop App for Mac and Windows

Finally, Bee is launching a desktop app for Mac or Windows, accessible with a Pro plan. It gives you access to recaps and chats on your computer and allows additional transcribing from the desktop. It’s as full-featured as the mobile app.

A Refresher on Bee Private Compute

Given the recent controversy around Apple’s Audio Intelligence features — specifically Siri Recap and Live Rewind — it’s worth revisiting Bee’s “Private Compute.” The company described it in a blog post on September 24 as a “secure and isolated processing environment that no one, including Amazon and Bee, can access.”

The post says “Amazon and Bee developed Private Compute from the ground up, and the technology builds on the foundation of the AWS Nitro System and its AWS Nitro Trusted Platform Module.”

In today’s announcement, Amazon reiterated the tenets of Bee Private Compute, including reminders that no audio is ever stored. “Audio is processed into insights in real time and deleted after processing,” the company said in a press release. It also said no one can access your data unless you choose to share it, transcripts are encrypted using keys that can only be created and controlled by your device, and you can delete your transcripts and summaries whenever you want.

What This Means for Bee Users

With the Frontier, Eclipse, and Bee Pro, the company is building out a fuller ecosystem of AI note-taking tools. The Frontier refreshes the wearable formula with better durability and more color options at $75. The Eclipse targets phone users who want longer battery life for $100. And Bee Pro ties it together with subscriptions, integrations, and a desktop app.

For existing users, the promise of free forever access to the features they have today is a reassuring note. For newcomers, the 30-day Pro trial offers a way to test whether the ecosystem fits their workflow.
