Tesla App iPad Support Finally Arrives
Tesla this week updated its app with native iPad and iPhone Duo support, adapting its vehicle and home energy controls for larger displays. Version 4.62.0 of the Tesla app is now available on the App Store for the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.
Previously, iPad users could install the iPhone app, but it lacked native support with a layout designed for the larger screen. The new interface essentially uses two columns, with navigation and controls on the left and a larger visualization of the vehicle or home on the right.
Two-Column Layout Makes Better Use of Space
The vehicle view provides access to features such as climate, charging, and security, alongside a large rendering of the car and shortcuts for vehicle controls. The home energy view displays power flowing between solar panels, a Powerwall, the home, and the grid.
Tesla’s design team reworked multiple views to take advantage of the additional space, with further refinements planned for future releases. Tesla designer Alex Guichet announced the update on October 21, sharing screenshots and confirming support for Android tablets and foldable devices as well.
Timing Tied to iPhone Duo Launch
The release arrives ahead of the iPhone Duo’s launch on Friday, October 23. The update follows Apple’s opening of App Store submissions for iPhone Duo apps earlier this month.
Existing iPhone apps can run on the device, but apps need to be built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later to dynamically resize to fill its inner display. Unoptimized apps appear with black borders.
What the Update Means for Owners
For Tesla owners who already use an iPad around the house or on the go, the native layout removes the awkward stretched interface that came with running the phone version. Climate controls, charging status, and security features are now easier to reach, while the larger vehicle rendering gives a clearer at-a-glance view of the car.
The home energy view benefits similarly, showing the flow of power between solar panels, a Powerwall, the home, and the grid in a layout that fits a tablet screen. Tesla says more refinements are planned for future releases, so the current design is likely just the starting point.
Android Tablets and Foldables Included
The update is not limited to Apple devices. Guichet confirmed that Android tablets and foldable devices also gain support, extending the larger-screen layout to Tesla owners outside Apple’s ecosystem.
