Facebook Algorithm Control Arrives for All Users

Facebook now gives users more say over the algorithm that decides what shows up in their feeds. Meta announced its new AI-powered feature, “Your Algorithm,” on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. The tool first appeared on Instagram before making its way to Facebook.

With this feature, Facebook algorithm control means describing your preferences in your own words using natural language. Instead of leaving everything to automated recommendations, you can tell the platform directly which topics and content you want to see more or less often.

According to Meta, the feature is designed to make content recommendations more relevant. You can adjust your preferences and interact with the algorithms responsible for ranking and recommending posts. Changes appear in your recommendations in real time.

How Facebook Algorithm Control Works in Your Feed

The tool covers both Feed and Reels. You describe what you enjoy, and the system responds. Meta says the platform may ask follow-up questions to better understand what you liked or disliked. This allows you to provide more detailed feedback, helping Facebook refine its recommendations based on your responses.

Meta has also updated Facebook’s three-dot menu, making it easier to manage content preferences directly from individual posts. By opening the menu, you can access “Your Algorithm” or select the “Interested” and “Not interested” options. These choices indicate whether particular content aligns with your preferences.

Managing Preferences From Any Post

The three-dot menu update puts Facebook algorithm control right where you need it. Instead of digging through settings, you can act on a single post. If something appears that you enjoy, mark it as “Interested.” If it misses the mark, choose “Not interested.”

Meta says the platform may ask follow-up questions to better understand what you liked or disliked. This step allows you to provide more detailed feedback. You can explain what you want to see more or less of, helping Facebook refine its recommendations based on your responses.

A Shift Away From Traditional Recommendations

The introduction of “Your Algorithm” reflects Meta’s broader effort to give people more influence over their social media experiences. AI increasingly shapes content discovery, and this move signals a shift away from the traditional recommendation systems that have shaped social media for years.

The platform is moving closer to streaming services that let users personalize recommendations based on their interests and preferences. Rather than accepting a feed built entirely by machine learning, you can now communicate directly with the platform.

The launch also builds on Meta’s existing personalization efforts across its other platforms. Instagram introduced Your Algorithm in June. That launch extended customization options across Feed and Explore after first launching the feature for Reels in December 2025.

Threads also introduced its own related feature, called “Dear Algo.” That tool allows users to influence the content recommended to them.

What Facebook Algorithm Control Means for You

For everyday users, this feature means less guesswork about why certain posts appear in a feed. Rather than accepting recommendations passively, you can actively steer the platform toward the topics, creators, and formats you actually enjoy.

The real-time nature of the changes matters too. Instead of waiting for the algorithm to gradually learn from clicks and watch time, you can describe your preferences directly and see results reflected quickly.

Meta has framed the feature as part of a larger push to make AI-driven content discovery more transparent and user-directed. Whether it fully reshapes how people experience Facebook remains to be seen. Still, it marks a clear step toward putting more of the recommendation process in users’ hands.

“Your Algorithm” gives Facebook users a direct line to the systems that rank and recommend their content. With natural-language descriptions, updated post menus, and real-time adjustments, the feature represents Meta’s latest attempt to balance AI-powered discovery with user choice.

Meta says the platform may ask follow-up questions to better understand what you liked or disliked. This allows you to provide more detailed feedback. You can explain what you want to see more or less of, helping Facebook refine its recommendations based on your responses.
