Siri AI EU Delay Leaves iPhone Users Waiting

The Siri AI EU delay is set to continue, and iPhone and iPad users in the European Union could still be waiting months for the upgraded assistant. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a delay of around five months would be the “absolute best-case scenario.”

That means the Siri AI EU delay may stretch even longer while Apple negotiates its compliance with the bloc’s digital rules. For now, the upgraded Siri remains unavailable on iPhone and iPad in the EU, though EU users can still access it on Mac.

Why the Siri AI EU Delay Is Happening

Gurman reports that Apple is withholding the upgrade to pressure the European Commission. The company is reportedly hoping frustrated customers will push for changes to its approach.

He compared the current standoff with the earlier Apple Intelligence delay in the EU. That rollout followed a similar pattern of regulatory negotiation and customer waiting.

The central issue appears to be how Apple’s AI features interact with EU digital rules. Apple would likely need to allow other AI apps to have the same privileges as Apple Intelligence.

What the Five-Month Timeline Really Means

The five-month figure is not a firm date. Gurman described it as the “absolute best-case scenario,” which means the real Siri AI EU delay could run considerably longer.

Apple has not confirmed a launch window for the upgraded Siri in the EU. The company is still working through compliance questions, and no resolution has been announced.

For users hoping to see the new assistant on their iPhones soon, the timeline offers little reassurance. A best-case scenario of five months still places the feature well into the future.

How EU Users Are Reacting

Reaction has been mixed, and many European users say they are not disappointed at all.

One commenter wrote: “I am so happy about this. None wants this AI surveillance slop on their phones. God bless EU for this.”

Another European reader said: “I’m very happy about this. I don’t want and need AI forced on my phone. Especially not for useless features like image playground or response snippets in other apps.”

Others focused on the practical lesson. One user noted: “Don’t buy an iPhone 16 just for AI features that are supposedly coming ‘someday.'” The same commenter suggested waiting for the new 2027 models instead.

Is the Upgraded Siri Worth Waiting For?

Some users question whether the new Siri is worth the wait at all. One commenter wrote: “Spoiler: Its not worth the wait. If you have Chat GPT its already FAR superior.” That person added an exception for searching photos or email on your phone.

A French enthusiast offered a more measured view. They said ChatGPT and Claude are more powerful, especially with paid subscriptions, but noted they would be interested once the feature is truly refined and allows use of Apple’s Private Cloud Compute with privacy in mind.

At this stage, that commenter described it as feeling like a “beta marketing gimmick” designed to accelerate slowing iPhone upgrade cycles. They also pointed out that even with an A20 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM, on-device local AI remains far behind what cloud-based providers can offer.

Why Apple Intelligence Rollouts Keep Slipping

This is not the first time Apple’s AI features have arrived late in the EU. The earlier Apple Intelligence delay followed the same pattern, with regulatory talks stretching past announced timelines.

The pattern suggests the Siri AI EU delay is less about engineering and more about negotiation. Until Apple and the European Commission reach an agreement, the feature stays on hold.

Apple has not said what specific changes it needs to make. The company has also not indicated when talks might conclude.

What This Means for EU Buyers

For now, EU iPhone and iPad owners should not expect the upgraded Siri to arrive soon. Five months is described as a best case, not a commitment.

If you are considering a new device mainly for AI features, the Siri AI EU delay is a strong reason to wait. As one reader put it, don’t buy hardware for features that are “supposedly coming someday.”

EU users who want to try the upgraded Siri can still do so on Mac, where it remains available despite the iPhone and iPad restrictions.

The Siri AI EU delay could keep European iPhone and iPad users waiting five months or longer. Apple is reportedly using the delay to pressure regulators, while many EU users say they are fine without the feature.

Whether the wait ends in five months or much later, one thing is clear: the upgraded Siri is not coming to EU iPhones any time soon.
