Meta Muse App Downloads Surge Past 3.4 Million
The Meta Muse app is quickly becoming one of the company’s most successful AI launches. According to the most recent estimates from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, the Meta Muse app has amassed more than 3.4 million downloads since its September 8 launch.
That figure only reflects data through Thursday’s estimates, which can lag behind real-world adoption. It means the numbers do not yet capture the full impact of the major push the Meta Muse app received at Meta Connect, Meta’s annual developer conference held this week.
What Meta Announced at Meta Connect
At the event, Meta revealed a range of upcoming features for its new AI app, including:
Video chat with the Muse avatar
Support for computer use on the Mac
A dedicated email address
More partners and connectors
Plans for smart glasses integrations
These announcements gave the Meta Muse app significant visibility and appear to have accelerated its momentum.
Download Estimates Vary Across Firms
Different market intelligence firms report similarly strong traction for the Meta Muse app, though their numbers vary. One firm puts total downloads to date at 4.3 million, with 2.6 million of those on iOS alone. Another estimates roughly 2.3 million installs as of Thursday, almost evenly split between iOS and Android.
The Meta Muse app is currently only available in the U.S. and Canada.
Daily Active Users Climb After Meta Connect
Sensor Tower also tracked daily active users for the Meta Muse app following the conference. It found that figure climbed 27% on Wednesday after the event wrapped.
Before Meta Connect, the Meta Muse app was already off to a strong start. Sensor Tower said the app reached an estimated 2.8 million downloads in its first two weeks on the app stores. During that period, from September 8 to September 17, the Meta Muse app averaged 55% day-over-day growth in downloads.
For comparison, ChatGPT averaged 24% day-over-day download growth in its first 10 days after launch. Download growth for Claude and Grok declined during their respective launches.
Muse Tops App Store Charts
On Friday, September 18, the Meta Muse app climbed to the top of the U.S. App Store and has retained its ranking ever since. It also reached the top spot on the Google Play Store on September 19 and remains there today.
Meta’s Cross-Promotion Strategy
While much of the traction for the Meta Muse app so far is organic, the app is also benefiting from the same cross-platform promotion that helped one of Meta’s latest social apps, Instagram Threads, top 500 million monthly active users. Meta is marketing the app to existing Facebook and Instagram users.
However, Meta’s approach to marketing the Meta Muse app differs from its approach with Threads. As Meta’s Head of Threads, Connor Hayes, recently told Business Insider, Threads also deals in user-generated content that Meta can match to users’ interests when running its cross-promotions. The trick with the Meta Muse app is to build promotional units that can showcase something the AI agent can do for the user, based on Meta’s understanding of what would be useful or helpful to them specifically.
Advertising Push Behind the Meta Muse App
Sensor Tower’s data indicates that Meta rolled out house ads promoting the Meta Muse app on September 9, a day after its launch. Within 10 days, the Meta Muse app received the majority of house advertising promotions across Meta’s properties, ahead of promotions for Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Meta has also begun advertising the Meta Muse app on mobile ad networks and other social networks, including Reddit, TikTok, and YouTube.
By Tuesday, September 22, the Meta Muse app ranked among the top 10 brands by advertising spend, Sensor Tower said.
Still, the growth of the Meta Muse app cannot be chalked up to Meta’s marketing efforts alone. Ads promoting the app only account for 6% of the ad impressions from launch through September 19.
Strong Early Reviews Fuel Momentum
The traction of the Meta Muse app is also fueled by strong early reviews that praised its polished design and highly capable AI model under the hood. The combination of positive press, aggressive cross-promotion, and a feature-rich roadmap announced at Meta Connect has positioned the Meta Muse app as a serious contender in the AI assistant space.
Meta has not yet announced when the Meta Muse app will expand beyond the U.S. and Canada.
What’s Next for the Meta Muse App
With daily active users climbing, app store rankings holding steady, and a wave of new features on the way, the Meta Muse app shows no signs of slowing down. The coming weeks will reveal whether this momentum can be sustained once the initial buzz from Meta Connect fades.
For now, the early numbers suggest the Meta Muse app has struck a chord with users in a way few AI apps have managed at launch. Meta’s willingness to throw its full promotional weight behind the product signals that it sees the Meta Muse app as a long-term bet, not a short-lived experiment.
