Plaud One Earphones Bring AI Note-Taking to a Familiar Form Factor

Hardware companies have been busy integrating microphones into everything from pendants and rings to credit-card-sized pucks and wristbands. Despite the variety of devices, only a few have been able to stand out. One of these companies is Plaud, which has over 2.5 million people using its hardware or software. It is now launching a note-taker in a new form factor called Plaud One earphones.

The Plaud One earphones adopt a simple, bare-bones style reminiscent of Apple’s AirPods. They can record phone calls directly from your ears, while their case doubles as a recorder for in-person conversations and note-taking. This makes the Plaud One earphones a versatile tool for professionals who need to capture important discussions without fumbling for separate recording devices.

How the Plaud One Earphones Work with AI Agents

While Plaud isn’t the first to create note-taking earbuds—rivals like Viaim and Anker already have similar products—the company is betting on superior software and AI capabilities to set these apart.

Once the Plaud One earphones transcribe your conversation, the AI agent takes over. It connects to essential tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion, and Slack. This allows the AI to automate tedious workflows, such as writing follow-up emails, creating documents, or generating presentations based on the conversation’s content.

This workflow automation is similar to what software note-takers like Granola, Fathom, and Read AI have been offering for a while. However, the Plaud One earphones offer a key hardware advantage that makes the experience truly hands-free and seamless.

eSIM-Enabled Case for Remote Commands

A standout feature of the Plaud One earphones is their charging case, which supports an eSIM card. This capability allows users to instruct Plaud’s AI agents remotely without needing their phone or computer nearby.

The company says this feature allows users to invoke AI assistance from virtually anywhere. Whether you are walking into a meeting or stepping away from your desk, the case ensures you can still direct the AI to perform tasks based on your recorded conversations. This makes the Plaud One earphones more than just recording devices—they become an always-ready interface for interacting with AI.

Recording Capabilities and Battery Life

Beyond its AI smarts, the Plaud One earphones are built to perform as high-quality audio devices.

  • Drivers: Features 12mm drivers for clear, balanced audio.

  • Noise Cancellation: Includes active noise cancellation (ANC) to filter out background distractions.

  • Recording Range: The case can capture voices clearly within a range of five meters, making it effective for group discussions.

  • Battery Life:

    • The earphones can record six hours of in-person meetings.

    • They provide three hours of call recording on a single charge.

    • Combined with the case, users can record up to 25 hours of conversations on a single charge.

These specs position the Plaud One earphones as a reliable companion for busy professionals who attend multiple meetings throughout the day.

Pricing, Subscription Plans, and Availability

The Plaud One earphones offer a generous initial transcription package, though heavy users will need to subscribe.

  • Free Transcription: Buyers get 300 minutes of free transcription per month.

  • Paid Plans: Additional plans start from $8.33 per month (paid annually).

That said, this launch seems to be more of a trial run. The Plaud One earphones will be limited in quantity, as the startup likely wants to gauge demand for such AI-focused earphones before committing to the format on a larger scale.

Upcoming Agentic Capabilities and Credits

Plaud is also working on building advanced agentic capabilities, which are expected to arrive as part of an update in the coming months. The company says it will introduce a credit-based system for different AI tasks. Buyers of the Plaud One earphones will get $200 in credits for these tasks, providing a significant incentive for early adopters.

Market Position and Competitive Landscape

Plaud has had a strong run so far, claiming in June that it had reached an annual run-rate revenue of $100 million. This growth demonstrates significant market demand for AI-powered note-taking solutions.

However, competition in the space is intense. Rival YC-backed Pocket has also reached that milestone. Tons of other companies like Anker, Comu, Viaim, and software startup Genspark are building in the space. This crowded market means the Plaud One earphones will need to deliver exceptional value to stand out.

The Vision for an Always-Ready AI Interface

Plaud’s CEO Nathan Xu holds that there should be an interface to talk to AI to invoke it from anywhere. He believes that earbuds meet that need perfectly.

“[For AI] we need to have a wearable and an always-ready interface, one that people love to wear, is socially acceptable, and private by design,” he said in a briefing.

Despite this vision, the company may find it challenging to draw people away from using their existing AirPods, Google Pixel Buds, Samsung Galaxy Buds, or wireless earbuds from any number of audio companies. These devices can pretty much do the same recording job when paired with any note-taking app.

Xu says Plaud is not necessarily competing against these companies. Instead, the company is positioning its meeting-recording technology to adopt a popular wearable format that people already love and trust.

Final Thoughts on the Plaud One Earphones

The Plaud One earphones represent an interesting evolution in the AI note-taking space. By combining a familiar form factor with powerful AI capabilities and an eSIM-enabled case, Plaud is attempting to create a truly hands-free experience for professionals.

The 12mm drivers, active noise cancellation, and impressive battery life make these earbuds capable audio devices in their own right. The integration with productivity tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Notion, and Slack adds practical value that goes beyond simple transcription.

However, the subscription model for transcription beyond 300 minutes per month may deter some users. Additionally, the limited quantity of this initial launch suggests the company is still testing the waters.

For professionals who attend numerous meetings and want to automate their note-taking and follow-up workflows, the Plaud One earphones could be a worthwhile investment. The $249 price point is competitive compared to similar AI hardware devices, especially with the $200 credit for future agentic capabilities.

Users can preorder the device now, and it will ship in the fourth quarter of 2026. As the AI hardware landscape continues to evolve, the Plaud One earphones could carve out a meaningful niche for themselves—provided they deliver on their promises.
