How to Download macOS Golden Gate Beta 5
Developers can download macOS Golden Gate beta 5 by opening System Settings and navigating to General > Software Update. Beta Updates must be enabled on the system, and a free Apple Developer account is required to access the beta.
Design Improvements in macOS 27
macOS Golden Gate introduces several notable design refinements. Liquid Glass opacity has been improved to enhance readability, and a new slider lets users control the level of transparency. Changes to shadowing make it easier to identify when a window is active, improving overall window management.
Apps in macOS 27 now feature uniform toolbars and edge-to-edge sidebars with less rounded corners. Menu bars also contain fewer icons, creating a cleaner, more focused interface.
Siri AI Becomes a Chatbot-Style Assistant
One of the most significant changes in macOS Golden Gate is the transformation of Siri into Siri AI, a chatbot-style assistant that combines general world knowledge, personal data, and onscreen awareness. Siri lives in Spotlight, and users can ask questions using the new Search or Ask interface.
A dedicated Siri app allows users to chat with Siri and view past conversations. On newer Macs, it is possible to set a custom voice for Siri with personalized pace and expressivity.
Visual Intelligence and Writing Tools
Visual Intelligence is now available on the Mac, enabling Siri to answer questions about what is on your screen. A Write with Siri feature lets users generate text or receive feedback on their writing directly from the assistant.
AI Features Across Photos, Safari, and Passwords
macOS Golden Gate includes AI photo editing tools within the Photos app, offering enhanced editing capabilities. Safari gains AI tab organization to help manage browsing sessions more efficiently.
The Passwords app now includes an option to use AI to automatically update weak passwords, improving overall security. Image Playground has been revamped and can now generate photorealistic images.
