Google Keep for Android Rolls Out Redesigned Quick Capture Widget

I’ve been using Google Keep for Android for a while now, and I’m always keen to see new updates. Recently, I noticed that Google Keep is rolling out a redesigned Quick Capture widget, which looks significantly different and enhances the overall user experience.

New Look: The Redesign Details

One of the most noticeable changes in the widget design is how the background now extends to fill the entire grid. Previously, only the ‘plus’ button sat inside a rounded square container, but now everything is housed within new shapes. For example, the ‘plus’ icon is now displayed inside a vertical pill shape, while the other four icons (Next Text Note, List, Audio, and Drawing) are in rounded rectangles.

Widget Configuration Changes

Google Keep’s Quick Capture widget has also received a configuration update. The 4×1 configuration now includes the text note, list, audio, and drawing shortcuts. To access the photo note shortcut, you'll need to switch to a 5×1 configuration, which might be a bit inconvenient for some users.

Another thing to note is the updated flower Material You shape—it’s still available but now appears larger than before. The 3×1 configuration has also seen an increase in size, providing more space for the icons and making it easier to interact with them.

No Updates for Other Widgets

It's important to mention that the Note Collection and Single Note widgets haven’t received any updates as part of this rollout. For users who rely on these widgets, the update will mainly affect the Quick Capture widget for now.

The redesign is a part of Google’s efforts to align its Android widgets with the Tier 1 widget guidelines. If you’re someone who frequently uses the Quick Capture widget, these changes will offer a more streamlined and visually appealing experience. The new design provides better organization for shortcuts, making it quicker to access your notes and tasks.

Availability and Rollout

The new Quick Capture widget redesign is available in version 5.25.132.01.90 of Google Keep for Android. However, it's important to note that there is a server-side component to the rollout, so it’s not yet widely available to all users. You may need to wait a bit before seeing the changes on your device.

If you're a fan of Google Keep, this redesign is a welcome change that brings a more cohesive and modern look to the Quick Capture widget. The updated design is cleaner, and the new configurations make it easier to access different note types directly from your home screen.

I’ll be keeping an eye on future updates, so stay tuned for more Google Keep news and tips!
