Google has just expanded its Gemini Live feature to a wider range of Android users, offering two exciting capabilities: Astra’s Live camera and screen sharing. While the rollout started back in March, many users are just now seeing these new features on their devices.

Gemini Live’s Astra camera and screen sharing are currently available to Android devices with a Gemini Advanced subscription. Google initially hinted at the rollout back in March, and by mid-April, more users are reporting seeing the features. I’ve been able to test this on two Pixel phones today, both across separate Google Accounts in the US and Europe. However, it’s important to note that not all devices signed into the same Google Accounts are receiving the features yet. This is part of a gradual rollout, which means it may take a bit longer for all users to see the Astra camera and screen sharing functionalities.
Astra Live Camera and Screen Sharing
Once the update reaches your device, you’ll be prompted to “Share your camera or screen with Gemini Live.” This feature is designed to let users collaborate in real time, whether that’s talking through ideas, showing their environment, or seeking help with content on their screen. The new interface includes a dedicated button for the camera at the bottom of the Gemini app, which makes it easy to switch between the front and rear cameras for better interaction.
As for screen sharing, you can launch this directly from the fullscreen interface or via the Gemini overlay. You’ll receive a privacy prompt before initiating screen sharing, ensuring that you’re fully aware of what you’re sharing with Google. Once you share your screen, a live count appears in the status bar, showing the active share.
How to Get Astra on Your Device
If you're curious whether you’ve received Astra, there’s a simple way to check: force stop the Gemini app before opening Gemini Live. This can help trigger the feature on your device if it’s available. Keep in mind that this rollout is still happening gradually, so if you haven’t seen Astra yet, it might just be a matter of time before it reaches your device.
With Gemini Live's Astra features, Google is taking a big step forward in making virtual collaboration more interactive. The ability to seamlessly share your camera feed and screen enhances communication, making it easier to connect with others, share ideas, and solve problems in real time. As the rollout continues, I’ll be keeping an eye out for further updates and performance insights. It’s an exciting time for Android users, and Gemini Live is proving to be a powerful tool in the digital communication space.
Make sure to stay updated with the latest from Google and Gemini by subscribing to their updates and checking out their newest features.
