Adobe has just dropped a major update for Premiere Pro—version 25.2—bringing some incredible AI-powered features that aim to speed up video editing and enhance creative possibilities. As someone who spends a lot of time editing videos for various projects, I’m excited to dive into the tools now available to every Premiere Pro user. Here’s a look at what's new and how it can elevate your workflow.

One of the standout features in this release is Generative Extend, powered by Adobe’s Firefly generative AI model. For video editors, this is a game changer. It allows users to extend clips by up to two seconds, which is perfect for those times when you need a little more footage for smoother transitions or to correct unexpected movements. Previously available only in beta, this feature now generates clips in 4K quality. Plus, it extends ambient background audio by up to 10 seconds, or 2 seconds when paired with video, but not speech or music.
What’s even more exciting is that Generative Extend is free to use for a limited time. Once that period ends, you’ll need Firefly credits to continue using it. Creative Cloud subscribers already receive monthly credits, ranging from 25 to 1,000 credits depending on their plan. Alternatively, you can buy extra credits starting at $10 per month for 2,000 credits. While Adobe hasn’t revealed how many credits Generative Extend will consume per use, this flexibility makes it accessible for both professionals and hobbyists alike.
2. AI-Powered Search Panel: Find What You Need, Faster
Another new tool in Premiere Pro 25.2 is the AI-powered Search panel. Let’s be honest: sometimes digging through hours of footage to find that one perfect shot can be frustrating. With this new feature, you can search through your video library by simply typing a text description, like "close-up of hands working in a kitchen." Adobe’s AI technology will instantly recognize objects, locations, camera angles, and even specific effects within your clips. It’s incredibly intuitive and saves so much time that it’ll quickly become one of your go-to tools in the editing process.
3. Multilingual AI-Powered Caption Translations
Video accessibility is more important than ever, and Adobe knows this. Premiere Pro 25.2 now supports AI-powered automatic translations for captions into 27 different languages. As someone who works on projects with diverse audiences, this is a massive benefit. The best part? You can display multiple caption tracks simultaneously, which can really come in handy when you’re working with content for a global audience. This feature makes it easy to ensure your content is inclusive without spending extra time manually translating.
4. Premiere Color Management & Performance Boosts
Premiere Pro’s color management just got better with new features like automatic transformations for log and raw files to SDR or HDR, bypassing the need for lookup tables. This allows for a smoother transition into editing, especially when you’re dealing with high-end footage. Adobe also promises improved speed and performance on both Apple Silicon and Windows devices, which will make your editing experience even more efficient.
5. After Effects 25.2: New Tools for Animation and HDR Monitoring
Alongside Premiere Pro, Adobe is also releasing After Effects 25.2, bringing enhancements like new HDR monitoring capabilities and animation controls. Support for 3D FBX models opens up more creative possibilities, while the High-Performance Preview Playback feature improves previewing longer compositions. It’s exciting to see how these improvements contribute to the overall workflow and quality of our videos.
As a long-time user of Adobe Premiere Pro, I’m thoroughly impressed with the new AI-powered features in the 25.2 update. Generative Extend, the smarter search panel, and multilingual caption translation are excellent additions that can save editors time and improve the quality of their work. Plus, with Adobe’s focus on performance, both professionals and casual creators will see a noticeable difference in their workflow.
If you’re serious about video editing, this update is a must-try. It’s clear that Adobe is pushing the boundaries of what AI can do for creatives, and I’m excited to see how these tools evolve in the future.
