Google's Pixel Weather app has received a significant update, changing how users search for and manage city locations. This server-side change introduces a more streamlined way to view weather information without cluttering the saved city list.

Previously, searching for a city in the Pixel Weather app automatically added it to your saved locations. Users often ended up with an extensive list of cities they no longer needed, requiring manual deletion. The latest update eliminates this issue by modifying the Floating Action Button (FAB) and search behavior.
Old vs. New Search Behavior
- Before: Searching for a city and tapping on it automatically added it to the saved locations.
- Now: Searching still displays results, but tapping on a city only lets you view its weather details without saving it.
- New FAB Design: The FAB now features a magnifying glass icon instead of a ‘plus’ sign, indicating the updated search functionality.
- New Add Option: If you want to save a city, tap the new ‘plus’ button inside a pill-shaped UI element on the right or in the top corner of the city’s view.
This update enhances user experience by preventing unnecessary clutter in the saved cities list. The previous behavior led many users to accumulate one-time search results, making navigation cumbersome. Now, users can check the weather for any city without worrying about it being permanently saved.
