While this new material brings notable improvements over traditional aluminosilicate glass, it doesn’t quite match the resilience of Gorilla Armor, which debuted earlier this year on Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra. With Motorola set to be the first manufacturer to incorporate this new glass technology, the industry is watching closely to see how it performs in real-world use.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic: What’s New?
Corning’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic is designed to withstand impact damage better than existing glass materials. The company claims it significantly improves drop resistance, particularly on rough surfaces. According to Corning’s internal tests, Gorilla Glass Ceramic survived 10 repeated drops from one meter on an asphalt-like surface, whereas traditional aluminosilicate glass failed after just one drop.

Corning’s testing shows that Gorilla Armor survived drops from 2.2 meters onto concrete-like surfaces, whereas Gorilla Glass Ceramic was tested at a lower height and on an asphalt-mimicking surface.
Concrete is typically considered to be a harsher impact surface than asphalt, meaning Gorilla Armor provides superior protection against extreme drops. However, Gorilla Glass Ceramic still offers a significant upgrade for mid-range and budget-friendly devices that may not feature the most cutting-edge protective materials.
Motorola to Be the First to Adopt Gorilla Glass Ceramic
Corning has confirmed that a Motorola smartphone will be the first to launch with Gorilla Glass Ceramic in the coming months. This aligns with Motorola’s announcement last year that all of its future smartphones will feature Gorilla Glass protection.
While Motorola has yet to specify which model will debut this new material, it’s likely that a mid-range or flagship model will be the first to showcase its durability improvements.
