Drone Chaos Continues: Schumer Demands Answers

The recent spate of drone sightings across the Northeastern United States has prompted urgent action from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. In a press conference on December 15th, Schumer expressed frustration over the increasing frequency and mysterious nature of these incidents, calling for a comprehensive solution.

A Growing Concern

Over the weekend, drone activity caused disruptions at Stewart International Airport, leading New York Governor Kathy Hochul to denounce the situation. Additionally, airspace over Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio was temporarily closed due to similar sightings.

President-elect   has also been affected, canceling a trip to Bedminster, New Jersey, citing drone-related security concerns.

Demanding Action

In response to these incidents, Schumer has requested the Department of Homeland Security to provide New York and New Jersey with advanced drone detection technology. He specifically mentioned Robin Radar Systems' micro-doppler radars as a potential solution. These radars are capable of distinguishing between birds and drones, offering a significant advantage in detection efforts.

Furthermore, Schumer urged Congress to expedite the passage of the "Safeguarding the Homeland from the Threats Posed by Unmanned Aircraft Systems Act." This legislation aims to empower local law enforcement and federal authorities to effectively address drone-related threats.

As drone technology continues to advance, the need for robust detection and countermeasures becomes increasingly critical. With the safety and security of the nation at stake, lawmakers and policymakers must work diligently to develop effective strategies to mitigate the risks posed by unauthorized drone activity.
